Specific dosage amounts depend on the
severity of disease, the individual animal, and the susceptibility of
the pathogen.
Tablets are scored for easy dosing.
Offer by hand or in a small piece of food. Do not give within 2 hours
of dairy products.
Injectable Solution Directions:
- Administer Baytril Injectable
Solution intramuscularly at an initial dose of 2.5 mg/kg.
- Begin therapy with Baytril
tablets 12 hours after giving the IM solution.
Taste Tablets and Enteric Coated
Tablets Directions:
- Split daily doses into two
or administer as a single dose.
- Give Baytril tablets by
mouth to dogs at a rate of 5 to 20 mg/kg of body weight.
- Give Baytril tablets by
mouth to cats at a rate of 5 mg/kg of body weight.
- Continue treatment for the
length of time prescribed or for 2 to 3 days beyond cessation of all
symptoms.
Frequency of Use:
Do not give Baytril for longer than
30 days unless specifically instructed to do so by your veterinarian.
If no improvement is seen within 5
days of beginning treatment with Baytril, a different therapy may be
considered.
Storage:
Keep Baytril in its original container,
out of reach of children. Protect Baytril Injectable Solution from direct
sunlight. Do not freeze.
It is a violation of Federal Law
to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Baytril (Enrofloxacin)
Baytril 22.7 mg is available as enteric-coated
tablets and as taste tablets in 100-count and 500-count bottles.
Baytril 68 mg is available as enteric-coated
tablets and as taste tablets in 50-count and 250-count bottles.
Baytril 136 mg is available as taste
tablets in 50-count and 250-count bottles.
Baytril is also available as a 20 mL
injectable solution.
Warnings:
Keep this product out of reach of children
and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.
Baytril is intended for dogs and cats
only. Do not use in other animals or in humans.
Rarely, use of this medication in cats
has been associated with retinal toxicity. For this reason, it is important
not to exceed 5 mg/kg of body weight per day in felines. It is not known
if this medication is safe for use in pregnant or breeding cats.
CAUTION: Do not use in cats
or dogs with a known sensitivity to quinolones. Do not use in dogs undergoing
rapid growth.
Baytril may cause side effects in some
animals. Dogs taking this medication may experience vomiting, diarrhea,
anorexia, elevated liver enzymes, seizures, depression, ataxia, lethargy,
and nervousness. Cats taking this medication may experience retinal
degeneration, vision loss, depression, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy,
ataxia, anorexia, vocalization, elevated liver enzymes, seizures, and
aggression.
Some drugs and supplements are known
to interact with Baytril. Speak with your veterinarian before giving
Baytril if your dog or cat is currently taking any other drug or supplement.
Avoid contact with eyes. If contact
does occur, immediately flush the eyes with plenty of clean water for
at least 15 minutes.
In case of contact with skin, wash
with soap and water and contact a doctor if irritation persists.
Use this medication cautiously in pets
with a known or possible central nervous system disorder.
