For Use In: Dogs. The
safety of pimobendan has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 6 months
of age.
This product is only for dogs 6 weeks
of age and older. It is not for use in humans, cats, or other animals.
Only give Vetmedin to the dog to which it was prescribed.
Keep out of reach of children. Do not
allow children to administer Vetmedin. Review directions and precautionary
statements before use.
Vetmedin is available in doses of 1.25
or 5 mg of pimobendan. Bottles contain 50 tablets. The medication is
delivered in oblong, beef-flavored chewable tablets scored for easy
halving.
Standard dosing is 0.23 mg per lb.
of body weight.
Directions:
- Use Vetmedin exactly as
prescribed by your veterinarian.
- Break chewable tablet in
half at the center score mark.
- Hand-feed 1/2 of the tablet
to your dog in the morning.
- Administer the other half
of the tablet 12 hours later in the same manner.
- Watch your dog to make sure
the tablet is consumed.
Frequency of Use:
Standard dosing is 1/2 tablet twice
daily, 12 hours apart.
Administer a missed dose as soon as
you remember it, unless it is almost time for the subsequent dose. In
such cases, skip the missed dose. Never double up a dose of Vetmedin.
Storage:
Keep Vetmedin in its original container
and out of reach of children and animals.
Store Vetmedin at room temperature
(between 59 and 86 degrees F) in a dark, dry place.
It is a violation of Federal Law
to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Vetmedin contains one active ingredient:
pimobendan. This vasodilator expands the blood vessels ushering blood
to and from the heart and helps the heart contract more readily. This
medication helps with certain types of mild, moderate, and severe congestive
heart failure in dogs.
Vetmedin is only available by prescription
from your veterinarian.

Warnings:
Keep this product out of reach of children
and animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.
Petmedin (pimobendan) is intended only
for dogs over 6 weeks of age that have been diagnosed with congestive
heart failure resulting from atrioventricular valvular insufficiency
(AVVI) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Its safety has not been established
in dogs with congestive heart failure from other causes. Do not give
Vetmedin to dogs that have any condition with which increased blood
flow may pose serious risks.
Do not exceed prescribed dosage.
CAUTION: Do not give Vetmedin
to dogs with aortic stenosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or other
conditions with which increased blood flow may be dangerous.
Allergic reactions to Vetmedin (pimobendan)
are possible. Signs include hives, scratching, facial swelling, difficulty
breathing, sudden vomiting or diarrhea, pale gums, seizures, shock,
and coma. If you suspect an allergic reaction, get your dog immediate
veterinary attention.
More common side effects of Vetmedin
include diarrhea, diminished appetite, difficulty breathing, cough,
drowsiness, weakness, loss of coordination, fainting, and buildup of
fluid in the lungs or abdomen. If you notice side effects, contact your
veterinarian but do not discontinue use of the medication unless instructed
to do so.
Consult your veterinarian before giving
your dog any other medications or supplements. Make sure your veterinarian
know if your pet is also taking theophylline, verapamil, pentoxiphylline,
or propranolol.
The safety of Vetmedin (pimobendan)
has not been established in dogs with congenital heart defects, dogs
with serious metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, pregnant
or lactating dogs, and dogs used for breeding.
In case of human ingestion, call your
doctor or a poison control center immediately for treatment instructions.
Have product label in your possession when calling and seeking treatment.
