Dog and Cat Lincomycin Antibiotics
Lincocin antibiotics are given to dogs and cats to treat infections caused by gram-positive bacteria. Lincocin pet medications contain Lincomycin which is effective against upper respiratory infections, septicemia, and dermatitis skin infections.
Use Lincocin only as directed by your veterinarian.
Practice aseptic techniques when administering Lincocin.
Clean and disinfect the vial closure before entry with a sterile needle
and syringe.
Oral Directions:
- Give 10 mg/lb of body weight every 12 hours.
- Alternatively, give 7 mg/lb of body weight every
8 hours.
Intramuscular Directions:
- Give 10 mg/lb of body weight once per day.
- Alternatively, give 5 mg/lb of body weight every
12 hours.
Intravenous Directions:
- Dilute medication with 5 percent glucose in water
or saline.
- Give as a drip solution.
- Give 5 to 10 mg/lb of body weight 1 to 2 times daily.
Frequency of Use:
Continue using for up to 12 days if necessary.
Storage:
Store Lincocin at controlled room temperature, between
68 and 77 degrees F. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
It is a violation of Federal
Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Lincocin contains lincomycin hydrochloride, a chemically
distinct antibiotic produced by Streptomyces lincolnensis var. lincolnensis.
The antibiotic is effective against most gram-positive bacteria and
it functions as both as bactericidal and bacteriostatic antibiotic,
depending on the concentration of the medication and the organism's
sensitivity to it.

Keep this product out of reach of children and animals.
Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.
Lincocin is intended for use in dogs and cats only.
Do not use this medication in other animals. Do not give Lincocin to
humans. This medication is for intramuscular, intravenous, and oral
use only. Avoid use in horses, hamsters, rabbits, and guinea pigs, as
these animals are sensitive to the gastrointestinal effects of the medication.
CAUTION: Do not use in animals with
monilial infections.
Antibiotic use can cause overgrowth of nonsusceptible
organisms, such as yeasts. Take appropriate measures if these superinfections
occur.
Side effects of oral Lincocin use may include loose
stools in dogs and cats and vomiting in cats.
Do not use Lincocin in animals with a known allergy
to it or to similar medications.
