Use only as directed by your veterinarian.
Do not give this medication to any animal without a prescription.
Do not allow children to handle or administer this medication.
This medication is usually given along with digoxin and furosemide.
Directions:
- Give dogs
0.25 mg per pound of body weight, once per day. If your dog's prescribed
dosage differs from this amount, follow the dosage instructions provided
by your veterinarian.
- Give cats
0.1 to 0.25 mg per pound, once per day. If your cat's prescribed dosage
differs from this amount, follow the dosage instructions provided by
your veterinarian.
- Give with
or without food.
- Give your
pet plenty of water to drink while using this medication. Dehydration
can trigger low blood pressure, electrolyte disorders, and/or kidney
failure.
Frequency of Use:
Do not use for longer periods, at higher doses, or more often than
prescribed by your veterinarian. Do not abruptly stop administering
this medication.
Storage:
Store Enalapril at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
Keep away from children and pets.
It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product
in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. This
medication treats heart disease by blocking a specific enzyme that is
necessary for the production of a substance that tightens blood vessels.
Use of this medication causes blood vessels to relax, thereby lowering
blood pressure, improving blood and oxygen supply to the heart, and
relieving strain on the heart.
Enalapril is available only by prescription.
Enalapril (generic to Enacard)
Active ingredient: Enalapril Maleate
Warnings:
Keep this product out of reach of children and
animals. Do not use or store in or near open flame or heat.
Enalapril is intended for use in cats and dogs
only. Do not give to horses or any other animals. Do not use Enalapril
in humans.
CAUTION: Enalapril has been known to cause birth defects.
Do not give this medication to any pregnant animals. Do not use in breeding
or lactating animals.
Do not give your cat or dog supplements containing
potassium while using this medication unless specifically instructed
to do so by your veterinarian. Tell your veterinarian if your animal
is taking aspirin, an NSAID, or a diuretic.
Tell your veterinarian if your animal has heart
disease, kidney disease, liver disease, lupus, diabetes, or rheumatoid
arthritis before giving this medication. Also, let your veterinarian
know if your pet has experienced an allergic reaction to any ACE inhibitor,
such as benazopril, captopril, or lisinopril.
Seek emergency veterinary attention for dizziness
or fainting, as these may be signs of overdose.
Discontinue use immediately and seek emergency
care if any of the following side effects occur: fever, bruising, bleeding,
chills, rapid weight gain, swelling, trouble breathing, or hives.
Consult your veterinarian but do not stop treatment
if any of the following side effects occur: dry mouth, diarrhea, nausea,
vomiting, reduced appetite, drowsiness, cough, sleep difficulties, mild
itching, rash, or mild dizziness.
